Beach Gardens in Swanage raises prestigious Green Flag Award after achieving international quality mark for parks and green spaces

Swanage Town Council is celebrating today after receiving a Green Flag Award for Beach Gardens, Swanage.
It comes as the internationally recognised standard for parks and green spaces celebrates its 30th year.
Beach Gardens is one of a record-breaking 2,391 sites in the UK to achieve the award this year – a fantastic testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication of the team who care for this valued community space, ensuring it is maintained to a high standard for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Councillor Cliff Sutton, Chairman of the Environment and Green Spaces Committee, said:
"We are delighted that Beach Gardens has once again achieved Green Flag Award status, recognising it as one of the country's best-managed public spaces. This continued success is a testament to the hard work, commitment and pride shown by our Grounds Maintenance and Visitor Services teams, together with the valued support of Swanage Tennis Club and Swanage Bowling Club.
Beach Gardens plays an important role in the community, providing a welcoming environment where people of all ages can enjoy sport, recreation and relaxation. From tennis, bowls and putting to basketball, table tennis, and attractive landscaped areas, the site offers something for everyone – and with exciting plans to convert a tennis court to also serve as a pickleball court, the offering is still growing. The 'Tea on the Green' café additionally remains a popular focal point, offering accessible facilities and a warm welcome to residents and visitors throughout the season.
Maintaining the high standards required for a Green Flag Award is a team effort, and I would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication. Their work ensures that Beach Gardens continues to be a clean, safe and enjoyable destination that the whole community can be proud of."
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, added:
“Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.
Swanage Town Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.
Congratulations to everyone involved.”
