New Report Launch: Swanage Green Seafront Stabilisation and Enhancement Scheme
Dorset Coast Forum has shared the findings from their recent engagement on the Green Seafront Stabilisation and Enhancement Scheme with Swanage Town Council. The report sets out a summary and analysis of the survey responses and includes details of the background to the scheme, what engagement took place, the number of people who took part in the engagement process and a summary and analysis of the results. It can be found here: Swanage Green Seafront Engagement Report.
The Town Council would like to thank all of those who participated in the Swanage Green Seafront public engagement this summer. More than 1,400 individual survey responses and many other contributions were made at drop-in and stakeholder events, the vast majority of these by those with a strong local connection.
Town Mayor Mike Bonfield said:
‘Your input is greatly appreciated, and we have received some excellent feedback that will inform the designs for both the essential and new schemes’.
The survey responses indicate a marginal preference for the new option. However, support for key features such as improved accessibility, the closure of Walrond Road, inclusive and traditional design, and natural planting came out strongly in responses relating to both options.
The Town Council will continue to evaluate both the essential and new options, taking account of the range of views within the engagement report relating to the costs and opportunities the Green Seafront project presents. The Council is also exploring funding opportunities and is committed to providing regular updates to the community.
Although no decision will be made as to the preferred option at the Town Council meeting on Monday 17th November, Councillors will consider the procurement of professional services in support of a future planning application. This is in order to meet the project timetable which currently includes construction commencing in autumn 2027.
As announced earlier in the autumn, the analysis of the results of the survey in relation to Shore Road will be set out in a separate report. This will be published in advance of consideration at a future Council meeting following review by Dorset Council.
