Temporary Hosepipe Ban Implications on Council Operations

Following the introduction of temporary hosepipe ban, Swanage Town Council has clarified with Wessex Water how the restrictions will affect our operations across the town.

As a result of this advice the Council has changed operational procedures regarding water use as follows.

We will continue to:

  • Provide drinking water supplies at refill stations and low-level taps.
  • Maintain water troughs at the allotments.
  • Water trees, hedges and saplings planted within the previous three years using hosepipes.
  • Water the putting greens at Beach Gardens.
  • Allow the cleaning of engines at the Boat Park after use to flush out salt water.

We will not:

  • Operate the seafront showers
  • Permit the general washing of boats
  • Water flowers and seasonal bedding using a hosepipe
  • Water trees and hedges that were planted more than 3 seasons ago.

For full details of the restrictions and exemptions, please see the guidance provided by Wessex Water on their website: www.wessexwater.co.uk/hosepipe-ba and the statutory notice: statutory-notice-for-temporary-ban-on-water-use.pdf
