Remembrance Sunday 2025

Remembrance Sunday 2025

On this Remembrance Sunday, Swanage Town Council joins the nation in honouring all those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts past and present - from the trenches of the First World War to more recent operations around the world. This year also marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

Swanage’s own history bears deep witness to this legacy. The town’s War Memorial unveiled in 1920 stands in the Recreation Ground on Shore Road and commemorates those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The nearby memorial wall also commemorates those civilians killed in the bombing raids on the town and a local man killed whilst serving in Palestine in 1948.

Their names are etched in stone, but their stories live on in the heart of our community. The legacy of all who serve and paid the ultimate sacrifice endures in the freedoms we enjoy today, and in the quiet moments of remembrance that unite us across generations. They gave their today for our tomorrow.

We will remember them.
