Tree Management
Dorset Council Tree Policy (adapted), and Swanage Town Council Tree Strategy
Swanage Town Council is responsible for the management of all trees located within its parks, open spaces and woodlands. The Council recognises the value that trees bring to the environment, as well as their contribution to the quality of life of residents.
The policy and strategy documents above (adopted by the Council on 12th December 2022) set out how the Council is committed to proactively managing trees on its land, and provides the context for how decisions regarding trees are made.
The Swanage Tree Trail leaflet provides an informative guide to some of the town’s most notable and historic trees. Designed to encourage exploration of Swanage’s parks, gardens and green spaces, the trail highlights the importance of our natural environment and its contribution to the town’s heritage and character. It offers residents and visitors alike an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk while gaining a deeper appreciation of Swanage’s biodiversity and commitment to conservation.
