Environment Agency update - Swanage fuel spill 10th March 2017

10 March 2017

Please find below a statement issued today by the Environment Agency regarding a possible fuel spill at Sheps Hollow.

Further updates will be issued over the weekend on the Environment Agency's Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Warning signs have also been put in place.

'A member of the public, and the Maritime Coastguard Agency, have today alerted us to a possible oil spill downstream on the north end of Swanage Beach, at Sheps Hollow.

We believe that this has been caused by a spillage of diesel, and that this has spread onto the surface of the sea adjacent to the main bathing beach at Swanage. Environment Agency officers are currently on site investigating. A local landowner is also helping to trace the source.

Beach-goers are therefore advised to be aware that there may be oil on the beach, to keep out of the sea, and keep dogs on a lead, until further notice. Thank you.

We will keep updated.'
