Car Parking and Parking Permits

The Town Council operates six pay and display car parks in Swanage at the following locations:

 Please pay for your parking by telephone, JustPark phone app, or card, if possible. However, the facility to pay by cash is still available if required. 

Please note that the maximum stay period applicable in each car park is being enforced. If you are unsure about the relevant stay periods, please review this information through the links to the individual car parks above. Thank you.

Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities

Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities - the Town Council is thrilled to announce that it has installed two Open Charge POD Point electric vehicle charging points in its Main Beach car park, and one in its Mermond Place car park. These are the first public electric vehicle charging points to be installed in the Purbeck area. Please follow the links above for further information, charging instructions, and live availability.

Blue Badge holders

Spaces for Blue Badge holders are allocated in all car parks, but please note that the car park fee applies.  A list of the charges payable can be accessed here.

Camper vans and motorhomes 

Camper vans and motorhomes are welcome in the North Beach and Main Beach car parks. The standard car parking fee applies, however, if you need to park across more than one marked parking bay then you will be required to purchase a ticket for each bay utilised accordingly. Please also note that there are no camping/no overnight sleeping facilities available in the car parks. There are, however, a variety of campsites and holiday parks in the local area offering such facilities, please contact Swanage Information Centre, or visit the 'Visit Dorset' tourism website, for further information or assistance.

Residents’ Car Parking Permit

Residents of Swanage and the surrounding villages of Langton Matravers, Studland, Worth Matravers, Harmans Cross, Corfe Castle, Kingston, Church Knowle, Kimmeridge and Steeple are eligible to apply for a Residents’ Car Parking Permit. This entitles the permit holder to park in the Residents’ Car Park, off Horsecliffe Lane behind the Recreation Ground. A small hourly charge applies in the summer, but parking is free in the winter.

You can apply for a residents' parking permit by submitting copies of the following documents to the Town Council - both documents must be registered to the same address within the civil parish of either Swanage or one of the villages listed above only:

(a) Your current Council Tax Bill and Vehicle Registration Document (V5), or

(b) Your current Council Tax Bill and New Keeper Slip. 

Please note that an administration charge of £6 will be charged for each new or replacement permit.

Excess Charge Tickets - Payments and Appeals

If your enquiry relates to the payment of a parking fine, payments can be made by cheque or cash by post to Swanage Town Council, Town Hall, High Street, Swanage, BH19 2NZ, or by direct bank transfer to Swanage Town Council, Lloyds Bank, Sort Code 30-99-12, Account No. 01275158.

Please include your vehicle registration number and the five-digit Excess Charge Ticket number as the reference for these payments, without which we will be unable to match the payment to the ticket. Thank you.

If your enquiry relates to an appeal regarding a parking fine, please ensure that you send us full details of your appeal, and also copies of your ticket and/or your proof of payment in support of the appeal, either by post as above, or by email to: admin@swanage.gov.uk

Please note that if your appeal is received within 10 days of the date of issue of the Excess Charge Ticket then the reduced fee period is extended whilst your appeal is being processed and you will be informed of the outcome when our enquiries are complete.

 

JustPark cashless parking payment facilities            

The Town Council is delighted to be working with JustPark to make parking easy and stress-free for residents and visitors. The user-friendly payment system offers a quick and reliable alternative to cash - giving drivers more choice and providing a positive parking experience.

JustPark went 'live' in Swanage in May 2018, and is currently being rolled out to car parks across Dorset, so users will only need to register once to park in car parks in the county. Please check the JustPark app or website to see which car parks are included.
