Town Council takes step forward in acquiring new Depot

Swanage Town Council has taken a major step forward in acquiring a new Depot for its grounds maintenance staff following the exchange of contracts on units at the Anvil Centre, Prospect Business Park. The total cost of the relocation, originally estimated to be close to £1 million, is currently expected to be in the region of £725,000.

The Council’s existing Depot, close to the junction of Kings Road West and Court Road, belongs to Purbeck District Council, and under the newly adopted Swanage Local Plan is due to be redeveloped for alternative uses.

The Town Mayor, Councillor Mike Bonfield, commented: ‘The Council’s existing Depot is not fit for purpose and I am pleased that the relocation plan is progressing well. This will provide a modern working environment for the Council’s Operations Department, who work very hard to maintain the main beach, our parks and gardens, play areas and cemeteries to the high standards that local residents and visitors expect from our town’.

Completion of the purchase and occupation of the new site is anticipated later this year.
