Swanage Boat Park Update - 18th May 2017

18 May 2017

This week a structural engineer has visited the Boat Park to provide a report on stabilisation work required to the retaining walls. This will be considered by the Town Council in June, prior to a full tender process to issue a contract of works.

Swanage Town Council had planned to open the Boat Park for the Spring of 2017. Unfortunately due to the overrun on the rebuilding of the RNLI Lifeboat Station, planned resurfacing works were not able to be undertaken until late March. During the resurfacing it became apparent that additional works were required to strengthen the retaining walls between the different levels within the Park.

It is currently envisaged that the slipway will remain open during any works, although this will be dependent on the contractor’s requirements.

Although the delay to opening is extremely disappointing to the Council and users of the Boat Park, when it reopens users will see a number of improvements including a complete resurfacing, a new layout, improved traffic flows, including a no stopping zone above the slipway, a clear information point, and increased security due to the installation of enhanced CCTV cameras.

Further information will be posted on the Town Council's website, and the TIC's Facebook pageand boat owners that have expressed an interest in renting a grid space will be contacted directly with any updates.

The Town Council would like to thank you for your patience during the tender process, and whilst works are undertaken.
